Ritchie+Daffin is an engineering design practice founded in 2013 by Adam Ritchie and Neil Daffin. We integrate environmental strategies and systems within buildings. Our purpose is to deliver positive change to energy and Carbon performance through innovation in mechanical and electrical system design.

Ritchie+Daffin

Core to our philosophy is the belief that passive environmental architecture and elegant engineering system design are fully integrated ideas that should be considered throughout all aspects of our work. Our ideas help our clients achieve the objective of making buildings for a more sustainable future.

The Directors Adam and Neil lead every project and work with a team of multi-disciplinary engineers to deliver a detailed and coordinated design. This continuous director-level involvement during the design and construction stages brings the advantages of a single point of contact and better coordination.

We like to get involved at an early stage to help steer the building concept towards passive solutions and reduced reliance on energy- and space-consuming equipment.

Working with the architect we help set the building fabric agenda and use a range of computational tools to simulate light, heat and air flows to explore design solutions.

Then we design, coordinate and specify all the mechanical and electrical engineering systems. Once construction is underway we monitor the installation of our design and assist with the commissioning and hand-over.

We are always looking for people who share our beliefs to join our growing team of designers. Are you a Physics, Maths or Engineering graduate wanting to design elegant buildings that make a positive change to energy and Carbon performance? If so, then we’d like to hear from you about your interest in the following roles:

■ Graduate Engineers:
Opportunities for recent graduates.

You will learn about all aspects of mechanical and electrical engineering, environmentally sustainable design and building physics, as well as developing additional skills in analysis, computer modelling and drafting. Then you will see your designs built.

■ Intermediate Engineer:
Opportunity for an engineer with 1-3 years’ experience of mechanical or electrical engineering design in a construction-related field.

You will have developed general knowledge of many aspects of MEP engineering and be on the path towards professional qualification and aspiring for greater responsibility and ownership on projects.

■ Building Physics Engineer:
Opportunity for an engineer with 3-5 years’ experience of analysing buildings.

You will be a proficient user of computational analysis software including IES. You will have, or be working towards, NDEA Level 5 accreditation to deliver professional energy assessments, and lodge EPC for Commercial Buildings. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Therm, PHPP, DesignPH and Sketchup is desirable.
