Working in partnership with a UK team led by Dow Jones Architects, Ritchie+Daffin is designing new mechanical and electrical systems, as well as acoustics for the building. Heating will be provided by water-to-water propane heat pumps connected to an open-loop groundwater abstraction system. In summer, comfort cooling is delivered passively using groundwater and radiant ceiling panels. Offices will be ventilated using displacement ventilation, enhanced by a Swiss innovation — the connector fan — which transfers air in and out of cellular rooms through a device no thicker than the separating wall.
