Community Hall, Competition

Selected from eighty-six submissions we were part of the Gibson Thornley Architects-led team chosen to proceed to the second stage in this open design competition for a new Community Hall and Sports Pavilion for the community of Sessay in North Yorkshire.

We developed an environmental and building services strategy around the intermittent pattern of use typical of a community facility with zoning of uses and services control and a responsive 'lightweight' internal construction typology.

There is no mains gas in Sessay so we proposed a ground source heat pump with a shallow ground-array, and solar thermal panels to contribute to the hot water requirements of showers.
